Submission to the government's review of the 2013 legal aid cuts
BID's assessment of the devastating impact of the 2013 legal aid cuts.
The Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012 (“LASPO”) removed non-asylum immigration cases from within the scope of legal aid funding. This has had a severe impact on many of BID's clients who have had difficulty securing their status and challenging Home Office decisions to detain and deport. We assessed the wide-ranging impact of the cuts in our submission to the government's 'Post-Implementation Review' of LASPO.
