BID is an independent charity that exists to end immigration detention in the UK.
We dream of a world free of immigration detention, where people are not deprived of their liberty or deported from their home.
We aim to end immigration detention in the UK through the provision of legal advice, information and representation alongside research, policy advocacy and strategic litigation.
Our Values:
Access to Justice
We believe everyone has a right to legal information, advice, representation & support. We provide these services to people in detention for free.
Freedom
We believe in freedom & fight for our clients' right to liberty. We believe no one should be deprived of their liberty for immigration purposes or deported from their home. Our clients should be free to build their lives in their communities.
Independence
By being independent, we can give the best service to people in detention. We are not affiliated with any political party, we are non-religious & do not accept money from governments or others who may wish to influence our work.
Empowerment
We believe in empowering people with experience of detention to take charge of their future & the campaign to end detention. We do this through the provision of free legal advice & by involving people with lived experience in all aspects of our work.
Excellence
We aim for excellence in everything we do. To achieve this, we train our staff & volunteers to high professional standards, ensure proper supervision & keep records that achieve exemplary reports from formal inspections.
Evidence
Through our casework, we collect evidence & create research to advocate for change to detention & deportation policy in the UK. We also provide witness statements & intervene in the courts to ensure our clients' experiences are evidenced & represented.
