On Wednesday 19th June more than 40 people came to the Tokenhouse for our Refugee Week pub quiz. The evening was a lot of fun, and raised vital funds for our legal advice services for people in immigration detention.
Teams answered questions on different subjects including music, sports, geography and London tube stations. One round featured questions from the Life in the UK test (which applicants must pass to become British citizens) that stumped even our British attendees.
Immigration lawyer Jawaid Luqmani said:
“An evening of fun for all who participated, and an opportunity to understand the needs of others and how to address them in a way that educated and informed. Music and picture rounds were great. We had a really good time.”
Erika Loggin, a master’s student at LSE, said:
“I’ve been volunteering with BID for the past two months and it was so lovely to have the chance to share their work with my friends. I can’t believe we came in second place!”
The raffle was also a big success. Prizes included:
- Signed limited edition prints by artist Taxi Driver
- Tickets to a play at Almeida Theatre
- Tickets for a gig at the Islington Assembly Hall
- Tickets for the historic Rio Cinema
- An Oliver Bonas gift card
- A voucher from the arthouse Genesis Cinema
- Copies of “The Lightless Sky” by Gulwali Passarly
Thank you very much to the people and organizations that generously donated prizes!
This was our first pub quiz at the Tokenhouse in Moorgate. After the sad closure of our previous venue, the Blacksmith and Toffeemaker, we were delighted to find such a friendly and accessible location.
